Best Dim Sum in Sydney

Sydney has one of the world's great dim sum dining scenes, built on the foundation of a large and diverse Chinese-Australian community that spans Cantonese, Shanghainese, and Teochew culinary traditions. The city's yum cha culture is a deeply embedded social ritual — Sunday mornings at the big Chinatown restaurants are a multigenerational institution for thousands of Sydney families.

Chinatown in Haymarket houses the most concentrated collection of traditional dim sum houses, including some that have operated for decades and maintain the full trolley-service tradition. But excellent dim sum has spread throughout Sydney, with particularly strong offerings in Hurstville, Ashfield, Chatswood, and Parramatta catering to the populations in those areas. Newer modern Chinese restaurants in the CBD have also elevated the form.
