The Sydney Newsroom
The Daily Sydney is published by a small team working under human editorial oversight, with AI handling aggregation, drafting and translation under that oversight. We cover Sydney every day with news, events, local guides, and community updates.
Built by locals, for locals
About the founder
The Daily Sydney was founded by Shane Anderson, a Canberra-based entrepreneur who got tired of watching local news disappear from the cities he loved. In 2026 he started The Daily Network as a simple experiment: one free morning briefing per city, written for the people who actually live there, and never paywalled.
What began as a single masthead in Canberra has grown into a federation of 19 city newsrooms across Australia — each editorially independent, each locally framed, and each committed to the same mission: give every Australian city the local paper it deserves.
How our journalism works
- We aggregate and curate from verified local news sources, official government feeds, and community calendars
- AI systems summarise, categorise, and generate background articles with full source attribution
- All content is reviewed against our editorial standards before publication
- We do not auto-publish crime reports, court proceedings, or unverified claims
Our editorial standards
We maintain a detailed set of editorial standards covering sourcing, verification, AI disclosure, imagery, and corrections. You can read the full policy on our editorial standards page.
