Sponsored content policy
How The Daily Sydney handles paid content, in plain English and in line with the ACCC's guidance on misleading and deceptive advertising.
What is sponsored content?
Sponsored content is article-shaped material a business or organisation has paid us to publish. It is created either by the sponsor or by our team on the sponsor's brief. It is not independent journalism.
How we label it
Every sponsored article is clearly labelled before the reader reaches the body copy. Labels we use include "Sponsored", "Paid partnership" or "Promoted". The sponsor's name appears in the byline or directly under the headline. Labels are not hidden in fine print and are visible on cards, in newsletters, in social shares and on the article page itself.
Editorial independence
Advertisers do not influence our news coverage. Our newsroom decides which stories we cover, how we cover them and how we headline them. Sponsors may not review or veto non-sponsored articles before publication, and a paid relationship does not guarantee favourable coverage in the news section.
What we won't publish
- Content that is misleading, deceptive or makes unverifiable claims.
- Political advertising without the legally required authorisation.
- Content that targets or could mislead children.
- Promotions for products that are illegal to advertise in Australia.
Corrections
Sponsored content is held to the same accuracy standard as the rest of the site. Errors are corrected promptly with a visible note on the article.
